Ingrid Apter was a naturalist and artist in San Francisco. An advocate of environmental stewardship, she painted wildflower and wildlife art to educate and share her passion of nature and the Bay Area she loved so dearly.

Ingrid's California Coastal Wildflower Illustrations
Ingrid loved wildflowers. The majestic rollings California hills in springtime, carpeted in blooms, were the inspiration for her canvas.
In the late 1990s, the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy began transforming the former San Francisco Presidio military airfield into a beloved waterfront promenade park known today as Crissy Field. In 1999 Ingrid volunteered with the restoration project planting native flora which she then illustrated into her signature botanical paintings.
For the next 22 years Ingrid gifted handmade cards of her wildflowers to friends and family far and wide. The lucky recipients of the cards, and those who received them as greetings, cherish them to this day and always remind them of Ingrid and her passion for nature's beauty.
To continue Ingrid's legacy of environmental stewardship and support of Crissy Field, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Parks Conservancy.
Ingrid's Marin Headlands Legacy Mural at NatureBridge
Ingrid was a field science educator at NatureBridge in the Marin Headlands for 20 years where she shared her love of nature with school children.
She designed in detail a landscape mural of the valley that inspired her. The scene stretches from the forested campus, across the lagoon and down Rodeo Beach. Ingrid had a love of illustrating wildflowers and animals which are found throughout the habitats in the mural.
When Ingrid was unable to complete her mural at the end of her life, artists Donna Pierre and Deborah Stevens graciously and skillfully became her hands and completed her vision.
In February 2022 the mural was installed in the Skins and Skulls Lab classroom and Ingrid's legacy mural now inspires and delights children (and adults!) daily.
